Most fight fans will agree that a knockout is the ideal conclusion to a boxing match. Audiences rise to their feet when a fighter gets hit flush on the jaw, or temple, which results in the sudden loss of consciousness and brings an end to the bout.
Whether it comes in the first or final round, a knockout gives those that buy a ticket or pay-per-view the feeling of money well spent.
On more than one occasion, Lucas “The Machine” Matthysse (37-3, 34 KOs) has decimated opponents with savage knockout blows, and delivered the kind of climatic finish that has long been the epitome of a boxing match.
Continue reading as we take a look at three of Lucas Matthysse’s most devastating knockout victories.
3. Lucas Matthysse
vs.
John Molina Jr.
From the opening bell, both men came out looking for the knockout. In the early going, Molina seemed to be unfazed by Matthysse’s power, and was able to drop the Argentinian in the second and fifth round.
Matthysse kept his composure and took over in the later rounds by flooring Molina in the eighth and 10th. The battle ended 22 seconds into the 11th round when Matthysse dropped Molina with another heavy shot and referee Pat Russell stepped in and called a halt to the action.
2. Lucas Matthysse
vs.
Lamont Peterson
In the third round, Matthysse landed a thunderous left that flattened Peterson in the middle of the ring.
Peterson barely managed to beat the count, and when the fight resumed, Matthysse charged forward and dropped Peterson again with a combination.
Having seen enough, referee Steve Smoger waved an end to the bout, and with that, Matthysse dealt Peterson the first knockout loss of his career.
1. Lucas Matthysse
vs.
Mike Dallas Jr.
Matthysse landed a savage counter right that immediately put Dallas Jr. to sleep, and sent him face-first to the canvas.
Robert Byrd began counting, but stopped short when he realized it would take more than 10 seconds for Dallas Jr. to wake up.
This awarded Matthysse his 31st knockout in 33 professional fights, and proved he was a force to be reckoned with in the super lightweight division.
