Listen up boxing fans! Normally the 12 Days of Christmas start on December 25, but we are switching it up a bit this year.
Starting on Sunday, December 14, 2014, RBRBoxing will be counting down the 12 Days of Christmas. Each day we will post one fight that the RBRBoxing staff has voted on that they want to see next year.
In essence, it’s our 12 Days of Boxing wish list! All the edits will be done by the dynamic duo of @lorinelise8 and @keystonebox. And of course, we want to hear all of the matchups you want to see next year so leave a comment below.

Vasyl Lomachenko
vs.
Guillermo Rigondeaux
Kicking off our 12 Days of Christmas series we have Vasyl Lomachenko (3-1, 1 KOs) vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux (14-0, 9 KOs)
Both men have legendary amateur records and have gone on to become champions in the pro game.
Who would you favor in this matchup?
Floyd Mayweather
vs.
Miguel Cotto 2
Coming in at No. 11 on our 12 Days of Christmas list is Floyd Mayweather (47-0, 26 KOs) vs. Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32 KOs).
Miguel Cotto has experienced a career resurgence with the help of trainer Freddie Roach, leaving many people wondering if a second bout with Floyd Mayweather would be any different than the first, which Mayweather won by unanimous decision.
Who would you favor in this matchup?
Sergey Kovalev
vs.
Adonis Stevenson
Coming in at No. 10 on our 12 Days of Christmas list is Sergey Kovalev (26-0-1, 23 KOs) vs. Adonis Stevenson (24-1, 20 KOs).
After jumping on board with Al Haymon in what was seen by many as a “path of least resistance” move, Adonis Stevenson hasn’t heard the end of it.
Meanwhile, Sergey Kovalev won over fans and staked his claim as the best Light Heavyweight in the world by defeating the legendary Bernard Hopkins in a one-sided bout.
The only thing left now is for these two to get it on in 2015. Who would you favor in this matchup?
Gennady Golovkin
vs.
Canelo Alvarez
Coming in at No. 9 on our 12 Days of Christmas list is Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28 KOs) vs. Canelo Alvarez (44-1-1, 31 KOs).
Golovkin has been on a mission to eradicate the entire Middleweight division and although he’s had little success in attracting big-name opponents, he just keeps knocking out every fighter who is put in front of him.
Canelo is building a reputation as a fighter with huge cojones, continuously seeking out the toughest challenges. The Mexican star wants to face the best fighters in the world, and that includes GGG.
Who would you favor in this matchup?
Guillermo Rigondeaux
vs.
Leo Santa Cruz
Coming in at No. 8 on our #12DaysofChristmas list is Guillermo Rigondeaux (14-0, 9 KOs) vs. Leo Santa Cruz (28-0-1, 16 KOs)
Since dominating Nonito Donaire in early 2013, no other top ranked fighter wants any part of Guillermo Rigondeaux. “El Chacal” continues to run through lower level opposition while calling out the best in his division, including WBC Champion, Leo Santa Cruz.
Santa Cruz is a fan favorite who has stated that he wants to fight the best fighters, including Rigondeaux. We would love to see this Super Bantamweight unification bout in 2015.
Who would you favor in this matchup?
Vasyl Lomachenko
vs.
Nicholas Walters
Coming in at No. 7 on our 12 Days of Christmas list is Vasyl Lomachenko (3-1, 1 KOs) vs. Nicholas Walters (25-0, 21 KOs).
Walters scored two impressive knockouts in 2014–over Vic Darchinyan and Nonito Donaire–putting the entire boxing world on notice.
Lomachenko started the year off dropping a title fight against Orlando Salido, but rebounded with dominant victories over Gary Russell Jr. and Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo.
Who would you favor in this clash of champions?
Roman Gonzalez
vs.
Juan Francisco Estrada 2
Coming in at No. 6 on our 12 Days of Christmas list is Roman Gonzalez (41-0, 35 KOs) vs. Juan Francisco Estrada (31-2, 22 KOs).
After dominating in obscurity for a few years, “Chocolatito” muscled his way onto every legit pound-for-pound list in 2014 by going 4-0 with 4 KOs and winning a title in a third division.
Since dropping a decision to Gonzalez in 2012, Estrada has gone on a tear, winning five straight bouts and picking up the WBA and WBO titles.
Who would you favor in this rematch?
Gennady Golovkin
vs.
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
No. 5 on our 12 Days of Christmas List is Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28 KOs) vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (48-1-1, 32 KOs).
Boxing fans thought they would get to this mega clash on July 12, 2014, but the tentative bout was pushed back and eventually scrapped all together due to contract issues between Chavez Jr. and his former promotional company, Top Rank.
Golovkin is one of the most feared punchers in the sport and Chavez Jr. has a granite chin. Something’s gotta give!
Who would you favor in this matchup?
Andre Ward
vs.
Gennady Golovkin
Coming in at No. 4 on our 12 Days of Christmas wish list is Andre Ward (27-0, 14 KOs) vs. Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28 KOs).
Ward is easily one of the most talented fighters in the world. The problem is that he doesn’t fight.
If Ward does make his triumphant return in 2015, it’s hard to imagine Golovkin being his first fight back, but hey, this is a wish list so let us dream.
Both men dominate opponents in their own way.
Which style would win out?
Carl Froch
vs.
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Coming in at No. 3 on our 12 Days of Christmas list is Carl Froch (33-2, 24 KOs) vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (48-1-1, 32 KOs).
Froch is coming off of back-to-back stoppage victories over George Groves and is looking to earn a big payday in Las Vegas before he calls it a day.
Chavez Jr. has been inactive due in large part to his promotional situation, but 2015 should see him return to the ring with renewed vigor.
Who would you favor is this Super Middleweight clash?
Miguel Cotto
vs.
Canelo Alvarez

Coming in at No. 2 on our 12 Days of Christmas wish list is Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32 KOs) vs. Canelo Alvarez (44-1-1, 31 KOs).
Cotto is still riding high off of his stoppage victory over former Middleweight champion, Sergio Martinez this past June.
Canelo used 2014 to rebound nicely from his first professional defeat against Floyd Mayweather Jr.
If negotiations go well, we could see this fight in the first half of 2015.
Who would you favor in Puerto Rico vs. Mexico clash?
Floyd Mayweather
vs.
Manny Pacquiao
Topping our 12 Days of Christmas wish list at No. 1 is Floyd Mayweather (47-0, 26 KOs) vs. Manny Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38 KOs).
Mayweather vs. Pacquiao has captivated boxing fans’ imaginations for the better part of five years. Throughout that time, Mayweather has remained undefeated and at the top of the sport, while Pacquiao has been impressive in rebounding from a couple of losses to bring his name back to the top of the list of potential opponents who can seriously threaten Mayweather’s reign.
In a blockbuster fight that could potentially shatter pay-per-view and live gate records, who would you favor, Mayweather or Pacquiao?
