Ryan Garcia is preparing for his return to boxing after serving a 1-year suspension for failing a drugs test.

The 26-year-old from California tested positive for the banned substance Ostarine in tests that were taken before putting on a career best performance against former WBC super lightweight champion Devin Haney.

‘King Ry’ dropped Haney several times en route to claiming a decision victory at the Barclays Center in New York. The WBC super lightweight championship was not at stake for Garcia, after he weighed in at over 3lbs heavier than the limit of 140lbs.

After it was revealed that the 26-year-old had tested positive for Ostarine, he was issued with a 1-year suspension from boxing as well as a fine of over $1 million. Garcia is free to resume his boxing career in April, as reports state he is currently looking to face reigning WBO super lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez.

Speaking to Seconds Out, ‘King Ry’ revealed a showdown with Lopez is likely next, as he looks to bounce back from what was a problematic 12-months.

“It’s looking like I’m going to fight Teofimo Lopez, so that’s good. I saw him today. It was a little strange. But other than that I’m ready to whoop his a””.

I’m out here actually throwing it down with everybody. Seems like everybody is scared or whatever … I just want to continue to fight great fighters.

Fighting Teofimo Lopez would be just as satisfying as me doing a rematch with Devin.”

Lopez reportedly turned down a fight with Haney, which was revealed by ‘The Dream’ in a recent interview. It looks likely that the WBO super lightweight king will now lock horns with Garcia, with an official announcement set to be made very soon.
