One year on from their controversial first meeting, Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia are set to do battle once again.

It was reported back in January that the super lightweight rivals have agreed on a rematch which is set to take place in October, as long as both fighters can come through interim fights that are expected to take place on the same card in May.

Garcia put on a career-best performance against ‘The Dream’ last April, dropping the 26-year-old multiple times before being declared the winner via majority decision at the Barclays Center in New York. His victory was very quickly overshadowed after it was revealed shortly after that he had tested positive for the banned substance Ostarine.

‘King Ry’ was served with a one year suspension from the sport and ordered to pay a fine of over $1 million. The fight was subsequently ruled a no-contest, removing the singular blemish from Haney’s record.

Speaking on The PorterWay Podcast, former world welterweight champion Shawn Porter backed Haney to prevail against Garcia in the rematch, insisting he must ‘right his wrongs’.

“And that’s what you do with rematches. You find everything you did wrong, you know it instantly after the fight’s over. You come back and you right your wrongs.

I do believe that it’s a rematch that he will win.”

An official announcement is expected to be made in due course, although it appears that they will clash in their highly anticipated rematch later in the year, giving each man plenty of time to prepare for what could be the biggest fight of their respective careers.
