Saturday, September 12, 2015 promisses to be a boxing-filled day and not only because of Floyd Mayweather’s “High Stakes” pay-per-view.

Undefeated middleweight star Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin (31-0-1, 22 KOs) will headline the latest edition of Premier Boxing Champions on NBC in a 12-round middleweight bout against Michael Zerafa (17-1, 9 KOs).

Also in action, Super Welterweight world champion Cornelius “K-9” Bundrage (34-5, 19 KOs) defends against undefeated rising star Jermall Charlo (21-0, 16 KOs).

The action-packed edition of PBC on NBC takes place Saturday, September 12 live from Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut starting at 4:00 pm EST.

Cornelius Bundrage
vs.
Jermall Charlo

I look for youth to overwhelm experience, particularly behind the jab and a busier fighter. I like Jermall Charlo.

Prediction: Charlo

Sarah Gruber, Staff Writer

I am not on the Charlo brother bandwagon, I find them both highly overrated. However, Cornelius Bundrage is 42 years old and Jermall Charlo is only 25 years old.

I think if Charlo is able to stay behind his jab and dictate a faster pace he can wear the older Bundrage down. If Charlo can stay patient and just simply box and move he can win this fight, if he chooses to go toe-to-toe with Bundrage he will have more trouble.

Prediction: Charlo

Michael Burnell, Staff Writer

Expect Cornelius Bundrage (34-5 19 Kos) v Jermall Charlo (21-0 16 Kos) to be a changing of the guard type of fight.
Bundrage is an overachiever who has seen his best days and Charlo a carefully groomed 25 year old fighter on his way up.
Forgive my sinicism but I believe the young prospect gives Bundrage a comprehensive beating and falls short of a highlight reel knockout.
Charlo wins in a commanding performance via easy 12 round decision.

Prediction: Charlo

I didn’t even know “K9” from The Contender (a boxing based reality show) fame was still fighting. He’s held this IBF title held hostage for years. Plus, he’s only fought eight times over the last six years.

Jermall Charlo on the other hand, is coming in to his own and gaining experience and is starting to step up his competition level. It’s seems he’s been focused more on his twin brother, Jermell who has been more active with five more fights.

Lucky for us, Jermall is the bigger puncher. K9 is going to make the fight ugly, but I think Charlo has the skill sets, footwork and jab to rescue the belt from the 42-year-old champ.

Prediction: Charlo

Alex Burgos, Editor-in-Chief

It seems like Cornelius “K9” Bundrage has been fighting forever. He’s like that fifth year senior playing basketball at Duke that you hate watching.

Anyway, Jermall Charlo (the better of the Charlo bro’s) has a chance to usher in some youth and get rid of grandfather Bundrage once and for all.

Charlo is quicker, younger and more athletic so he should be favored here. But, a sly old dog like Bundrage could always make things difficult. Still, I’m rolling with Charlo.

Prediction: Charlo

Peter Quillin
vs.
Michael Zerafa

Quillin Zerafa - Brant Wilson (1)

Brent Herrin, Staff Writer

Peter Quillin will be back in action Saturday afternoon against sacrificial lamb Michael Zerafa as the feature bout of a Premier Boxing Champions card at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut.

This is obviously a tune up match for Quillin in preparation for a potential showdown with Daniel Jacobs at the end of the year. This means that poor Zerafa is being led to the slaughter, and will be lucky to survive the first or second round.

Prediction: Quillin

Tony Calcara, Staff Writer

Peter Quillin should win easily here. The bigger question is when will he become more consistently active and fight only at an elite level?

Prediction: Quillin

Sarah Gruber, Staff Writer

Peter Quillin is highly favored in this bout and I see him making easy work of Michael Zerafa.

Zerafa is a young, 23-year-old Aussie fighting out of his home country for the fight time. I think he will be in over his head as Quillin is in his prime and is very experienced. Qullin needs to get past Zerafa so that a highly anticipated fight can be made with fellow New Yorker Danny Jacobs.

I think Quillin shines in this bout and fights Jacobs next for a real NYC showdown.

Prediction: Quillin

Michael Burnell, Staff Writer

In Peter Quillin’s first bout since his surprisingly tight bout with hard hitting Andy Lee, he meets relatively inexperienced Michael Zerafa.

Quillin will dominate and stop his rival in the mid rounds.

Prediction: Quillin

Brandon Glass, Contributing Writer

A disappointing choice in an opponent for Peter Quillin as he bypasses Danny Jacobs, the regular WBA 160 pound champion who has been advocating a fight between the two. Even though Quillin was ringside for Jacobs’ controversial KO win over Sergio Mora, he insisted that he isn’t overlooking Michael Zerafa and that a fight might be in the works for Jacobs after this fight.

It should imply a lot that in a prediction for a fight between Quillin and Zerafa, I’m talking about Jacobs vs. Quillin. Zerafa is relatively unknown and has only 18 fights under his belt. Another showcase fight for Quillin which basically means except for a stroke of luck in Zerafa’s favor this fight is supposed to remind people why they should want to watch Quillin at all.

Quillin won before the ink dried on the contract.

Prediction: Quillin

Alex Burgos, Editor-in-Chief

All Peter Quillin has to do is beat Melbourne product, Michael Zerafa and a matchup against Daniel Jacobs could come to fruition in December. I’ll sign up for that fight.

This one in front of us sucks though.

Regardless, this fight is only important because Quillin needs to win to get to the big fight against Jacobs, one that I think he can win.

Prediction: Quillin
