Shakur Stevenson has responded to claims that Gervonta Davis will be making a shock retirement from boxing at the end of 2025.

The reigning WBC lightweight champion has been heavily linked with a showdown against Davis, who currently holds the WBA title at 135lbs. Both fighters have been on a collision course for quite some time, but a fight between them is yet to materialise.

In a shock revelation made by Davis at the back end of 2024, the 30-year-old confirmed he is planning on walking away from boxing at the end of 2025, claiming he is tired of the sport and wishes to spend more time with his family.

Speaking to the Ring Magazine, Stevenson responded to Davis’ retirement claims, admitting he ‘doesn’t care’ about the decision of his lightweight rival.

“Honestly, I really don’t care. Like it ain’t really no care in the world about what he does.

I’m focused on myself. I’m worried about my career and what I got going so I really don’t care about that.”

Stevenson makes the next defence of his WBC title on February 22 against highly rated American prospect Floyd Schofield on the undercard of the undisputed light heavyweight champion rematch between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

‘Tank’ is pencilled in to face Lamont Roach in the next defence of his WBA lightweight title on March 1 at the Barclays Center in New York City, as he makes the first outing of what could well be his final 12 months in the sport before hanging his gloves up for good.
