Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury clashed for the second time in another historic heavyweight battle on December 21.
The Ukrainian got the nod once again, retaining his unified world heavyweight titles with a unanimous decision, as all three judges scored it 116-112 in favour of the 37-year-old.
‘The Gypsy King’ was visibly infuriated when the final result was read out, as he felt he had done just enough to get his revenge over Usyk who had already beaten him in May.
Teddy Atlas, who is regarded as one of the best analysts in the sport, shared his thoughts with TalkSport on how he scored the fight.
“116-112 [For Usyk].”
After revealing his own scorecard, Atlas gave a detailed breakdown of the fight from his perspective.
“The judges got it right. I don’t understand all these people talking about robbery. From the sixth round on Usyk does what he usually does. He had a bad fifth round and what does he do? He responds. He finds a way to win.
“For me he won six straight rounds. I gave the last round to Fury. There were some rounds where Fury tried to steal the rounds in spots and I wasn’t sure how the judges would go.
“A lot of people thought they would go that way [for Fury] in the tight rounds. In the whole, from the sixth round on, the man controlling the pace of the fight, the tempo of the fight, being the boss in the fight, it was only one guy, it was Usyk.”
Usyk’s victory all but ended his rivalry with ‘The Gypsy King’, writing himself into boxing history as one of the greatest heavyweights of this generation, and possibly of all time.
Fury’s future now remains unclear, with the 36-year-old set to weigh up his options on whether he will fight on, or retire from the sport.
