Teofimo Lopez has cemented his place as one of the top fighters at super lightweight in the world.

The 27-year-old currently holds the WBO title at 140lbs, which he won against former undisputed champion Josh Taylor in June 2023. Lopez has made two successful defences of his crown, claiming points victories over Jamaine Ortiz and Steve Claggett respectively.

After bouncing back from the first defeat of his career at the hands of George Kambosos Jr in 2021, ‘The Takeover’ has set his sights on securing the biggest fights possible, as he looks to make 2025 his most successful year to date.

Speaking to the Come And Talk 2 Me Podcast, Lopez spoke of a potential showdown with WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis, naming ‘Tank’ as the one fighter who could actually knock him out if they were to clash.

“I would say that [fight] doesn’t enter the championship rounds.

Someone is getting knocked out. May the best man win.

I have to give him a fair chance.”

The 27-year-old then commented briefly on Davis’ choice of opponents, claiming he is yet to fully test himself against the best.

“If you really look at it, look at the resume, there is a certain limit that you hit and then there is that next criteria and next tier, if you don’t match that you don’t know how great that is.

The 30-year-old from Baltimore has held the WBA title at 135lbs for almost four years, having made successful defences against Isaac Cruz, Rolly Romero and Frank Martin. Davis is due return to the ring on March 1 against Lamont Roach in New York.
