Welterweight contender Jin Sasaki has made a promise to ‘knock out’ Jaron Ennis if he can secure a fight with the IBF champion.
Sasaki, who hails from Japan, has won eighteen professional contests with 17 coming by way of knockout with only one defeat and is currently ranked at number 3 in the IBF’s welterweight rankings.
Ennis, who currently holds the IBF world welterweight title, has set his sights on unifying the 147lb division with promoter Eddie Hearn claiming he intends to reach out to the other 147lb title holders about facing ‘Boots’ in 2025.
In an interview with Tru School Sports, Sasaki shares his confidence about securing a knockout victory over Ennis, as he targets a showdown with the welterweight star in 2025.
“I’m fully confident I can knock him out.
I’m confident because I’ve been doing sparring, and I figured out I can knockout Boots. I want to do it next year in 2025. I’m confident, I can beat him. I think Boots Ennis is the top guy at welterweight.”
The Japanese star is pencilled in to return to the ring on January 24 2025 against Shoki Sakai at the Ariake Arena. The 23-year-old might not be on the radar of ‘Boots’, but has laid all of his cards on the table and staked his claim to become the first man to defeat the IBF welterweight champion.
Ennis’ next move is yet to be confirmed, but he is expected to return to action in the opening few months of 2025.
