Two-Weight World Champion Wants Jaron Ennis Fight Next: “Let’s Make It Happen”

Jaron Ennis has enjoyed a successful couple of years in boxing, now reigning as IBF world welterweight champion.

The 27-year-old was elevated to full IBF champion at the end of 2023, when Terence Crawford decided to vacate the title, paving the way for ‘Boots’ to claim his first world championship.

Since becoming world champion, Ennis has made two successful defences against David Avanesyan and Karen Chukhadzhian respectively, with negotiations for his next outing well underway.

One man who has made himself available for a shot at ‘Boots’ is WBO super-lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez. The two-weight world champion has won all five of his last fights, including an impressive victory over former undisputed light welterweight champion Josh Taylor.

Speaking to 210BoxingTV, Lopez made a direct call out to the IBF welterweight champion, claiming he just wants to fight the best.

“Boots is a great fighter, we know this. He’s able to switch stances and all that.

It’s never about power, it’s here [brain]. We just wanna fight the best, that’s it. Boots Ennis is one of the best fighters in the 147lb division.

All you guys say you guys are the best, let’s make it happen! I think this is what we need to revamp the sport, we need that.”

Lopez last fought in the summer when he beat Steve Claggett comprehensively in Miami to retain his WBO title. ‘The Takeover’ is now targeting the biggest fights available and is gearing up for a big 2025, as boxing fans await news on a potential clash with ‘Boots’.
