Tyson Fury has announced his retirement from boxing after suffering defeat to Oleksandr Usyk for the second time.
The 36-year-old locked horns with the Ukrainian superstar in their highly anticipated on December 21, suffering another points defeat after a close 12-round battle in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
All three judges scored it 116-112 in favour of Usyk, which left Fury visibly distraught after he felt he had done enough to get the nod and capture the unified heavyweight titles for the second time.
In a post published across his social media pages, ‘The Gypsy King’ sent a final message to his fans as he announced he is finally walking away from the sport.
“Hi everybody. I’m going to make this short and sweet. I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s been a blast, I’ve loved every single minute of it, and I’m going to end with this. Dick Turpin wore a mask. God bless everybody, see you on the other side. Get up.”
It has been heavily speculated over the last couple of weeks that the 36-year-old could finally face fellow British heavyweight star Anthony Joshua, with both men stuck at a crossroads in their respective career.
Joshua suffered a shock knockout defeat to IBF world heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois in September, losing out on the chance to become a three-time heavyweight champion.
‘AJ’ attended the Ring Magazine Awards in London on Saturday as he made it clear he would be targeting a showdown with Fury next, as he enters the final chapter of his accomplished career.
It now appears that the all-British showdown between both men will not be taking place, as Fury looks to have finally drawn the curtain on his glittering boxing career.
