Mike Tyson re-entered professional boxing for the first time in 19 years when he faced Jake Paul last month.
The former undisputed world heavyweight champion hadn’t fought since a sixth round retirement loss to Ireland’s Kevin McBride in June 2005, putting an end to an illustrious two-decade career where Tyson became the youngest ever world heavyweight champion at just 20 years old.
When it was announced that ‘Iron Mike’ would be returning to the sport after being away for so long, many fans felt it was the completely wrong decision and would tarnish Tyson’s career, especially considering he is just shy of being 60 years old.
The fight itself was a frustrating and difficult watch, with some even claiming that it was rigged to ensure neither men ensued too much damage on one another.
In the aftermath of the event, well known figures in the sport such as Terence Crawford criticised Tyson’s performance, branding it ‘trash’.
Speaking to ESNEWS, the 58-year-old’s son Amir reveals how his father has been dealing with the loss and criticism that has been coming his way.
“He’s just been in his zone staying to himself. He’s real good, he’s not handling it bad.
He knocked out Netflix and it was all because of him pretty much. It was just a historic night, I’m glad everyone involved got paid you know what I mean, it was a good night!”
Following his defeat to YouTube sensation Paul, Tyson initially revealed his plans to remain active in the sport, but has since made a U-Turn on this decision and is expected to go back into retirement, with fans knowing that it is the correct decision.
