Oleksandr Usyk Names The Only Heavyweight ‘He Could Never Beat’

Oleksandr Usyk wrote his name into boxing history with a second consecutive victory against Tyson Fury on December 21.

Despite some controversy that followed, many felt it was the Ukrainian who was the deserved winner against ‘The Gypsy King’, with all three judges scoring the contest 116-112 in favour of the two weight undisputed champion.

The future of the 37-year-old remains unclear, but it appears that he will fight on and look to create even more history for himself, with rumours that he is weighing up a potential move back down to cruiserweight, targeting fights with both Jai Opetaia and Gilberto Ramirez, who hold three of the four cruiserweight world titles between them.

Another option for the Ukrainian is a rematch against IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois. Usyk clashed with the Brit in August last year, stopping the 27-year-old in the ninth round after he was on the floor himself following a controversial punch which was later ruled as a low blow by the referee.

Usyk has now beaten heavyweights Anthony Joshua (twice), Daniel Dubois and now Fury in successive fights. The Ukrainian icon was asked in the press conference after his latest win if there was a single heavyweight in history that he could never beat, to which he said this.

“Yeah, it’s Oleksandr Usyk!”

The 37-year-old has won everything there is to won in the sport, with many questioning what else there is left to achieve.

Usyk has confirmed he intends to spend some time with his family to get some well deserved rest, with an announcement on his next steps expected to come within the first few months of 2025.
