Nontio “The Filipino Flash” Donaire and Nicholas “Axe Man” Walters are set to face each other this Saturday, October 18, 2014 for Donaire’s WBA Featherweight “super” title.

The Flash and the Axe are two forces that if manifest, will make for an interesting bout.

When discussing Donaire, it’s hard to not bring up his loss to Guillermo Rigondeaux last year, which exposed, or at least confirmed that Donaire is not the smartest fighter. Rigondeaux effectively schooled Donaire and ended his 12-year winning streak, making many wonder how Donaire would recover and if he could continue to keep up with high-caliber fighters.

Since then, Donaire has been working to build himself in the Featherweight division, even though his last two fights were unimpressive to say the least. He was able beat Vic Darchinyan by technical knockout in the ninth round, despite struggling to dominate him for most of the fight.

More recently, Donaire managed to knockdown Simpiwe Vetyeka once in the fourth round, which secured his win before the fight was stopped in Round 5 due to a cut he sustained from an accidental head clash.

Before the bout was confirmed, the matchup with Donaire had been a “dream fight” for Walters. He is a hungry fighter who, like most in the game, is convinced he is the best in his division. But talk is cheap. Now that the fight has come to fruition, Walters has the opportunity to prove to everyone what he already believes about himself.
