Paulie Malignaggi (32-5, 7 KOs) and Zab Judah (42-8, 29 KOs) have agreed to face each other in what is being dubbed the “Battle of Brooklyn” on December 7, 2013 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.

Both Malignaggi and Judah are outspoken former champions who are in the latter parts of their career, but still come prepared to fight and put on an entertaining show.

Malignaggi spoke with BoxingScene regarding the bout:

It’s a fight that could really cause a Brooklyn civil war in a way because it’s a boundary battle. We’re both from the same borough but now everybody is going to have to take sides. At the end of the day, the fact that me and Zab are both from Brooklyn it gives us this chance to have this fight at the Barclays Arena. Sometimes life is about circumstances and timing. If me and Zab both weren’t from Brooklyn, this fight probably wouldn’t happen or wouldn’t be as big. Me and Zab are both coming off losses but we’re coming off losses where we both looked good. And being in our 30’s, we showed that we still have a lot to give. It’s a turf war, a grudge match.

Malignaggi is absolutely right regarding each mans previous bout. Judah fought a competitive bout against 140-pound kingpin, Danny Garcia while Malignaggi lost a disputed decision to Adrien Broner.

As of now, no other confirmed bouts have been announced for December 7, but fellow Brooklynite, Danny Jacobs is listed on Box Rec as having a bout on the same card.

Other fighters who could possibly fight on the same card are Keith Thurman and Jesus Soto-Karass.

Who has the edge in the Battle of Brooklyn?
