Premier Boxing Champions returned to Bounce TV for another edition of “The Next Round’ on Friday, September 18, 2015. In the late replacement main event, Jamal James scores a unanimous decision victory over Juan Carlos Abreu.

Jamal James vs. Juan Carlos Abreu

In the main event undefeated Jamal James, who hails from Minneapolis, MN, squared off with rugged Dominican Juan Carlos “Merangue” Abreu for a scheduled 10 round welterweight clash.

The lanky, 6’2″ James had his hands full with Abreu’s rough tactics and free swinging, but was able to catch him cleanly on occasions in an evenly matched fight.

In Round 4 Abreu caught the unorthodox James stepping back with a chopping right to the side of the head that put him down for a brief count. James appeared more irritated than injured and they resumed the melee with each wrangling for position.

In Round 6 James caught Abreu with a flush right hand and followed it up with a flurry that put the Dominican on the canvas.

After some frenetic exchanges in Round 7 James caught Abreu with several precise shots that had him in trouble and he courageously fought back to finish the round.

The remaining three rounds saw Abreu in pursuit and James trying to line him up for the perfect shot.

It was a rough and tumble fight that justifiably ended with a unanimous decision in favor of Jamal James 97-91, 96-92, 96-92

Erickson Lubin vs. Orlando Lora

The co-main event featured 19-year-old Erickson “The Hammer” Lubin against veteran Orlando Lora in 10 round super welterweight action. The young southpaw showed excellent poise in front of his hometown, patiently stalking Lora and hurting him to the body in Round 1. Lubin continued the body assault before shifting to the head at the end of round two sent Lora reeling back to the ropes and his knee touched the canvas prompting the referee to begin a count. The onslaught continued into the sixth round until Lubin’s corner had seen enough and wisely saved the brave Lora from further damage at 1:58 of Round 6. Wilky Campfort vs. Ronald Montes

In super welterweight action, “Silky” Wilky Campfort opposed by hard punching Ronaldo “Salvaje” Montes of Columbia in a scheduled 10 rounder.

Though it was Montes’ first fight at super welterweight, he appeared to be the larger fighter and dropped Campfort in the first round with a perfectly timed jab that followed a flurry.

Wilky came out fast in the second round throwing slashing combinations to the head and body that dropped Montes twice. The game Montes rose and fired back, but Wilky was too “Silky” and dropped him again near the bell prompting the referee to call a halt to the fight at 2:59 of the Round 2.

If nothing else Campfort wins the battle of the nicknames for tonight’s card.

Dennis Galarza vs. Bernardo Gomez Uribe

In an eight round featherweight bout, Dennis Galarza took on Bernado Uribe.

The rangy Galarza kept his range with a commanding jab and ripped Uribe with solid shots with both hands through the first round.

In the second, he found a home for the right hand, dropping Uribe heavily for a knockout victory.

Samuel Figueroa vs. Fernando Paliza

Welterweights Samuel Figueroa and Fernando Paliza stepped between the ropes to settle “who’s 0 will go” in a battle of the unbeaten over six rounds.

The fight was action packed and saw an aggressive Paliza visit the canvas in the first following sharp counter punching by Figueroa. Figueroa dropped him again at the bell in Round 6  to secure a unanimous decision victory.

Willie Jones vs. Jamal Harris

In undefeated welterweight action scheduled for six rounds Willie Jones faced Jamal Harris.

It was a competitive first round, things got heated and continued after the bell with both fighters exchanging punches. Harris received the worst of it and was dropped hard on his back. He was given extra time to recover at the beginning of the second round and Jones was penalized two points.

The remaining five rounds were contentious though Jones remained in the driver’s seat, countering Harris’ rushes and flurries effectively. The two point deduction ultimately didn’t affect the result with Jones winning by unanimous decision.
