Postol: “I’m Ready to Fight Crawford. Is He Ready to Fight Me?”

After his spectacular win over Lucas Matthysse to win the WBC Super Lightweight title at the StubHub Center in Carson, California, Viktor Postol (28-0, 12 KOs) looked happy, but he was also calm and relaxed.

The 31-year-old native of Ukraine had finally captured a world title after seven years as a professional boxer, and was quick to credit his win to the work done by his trainer, Freddie Roach.

Along with celebrating a victory comes a look at the immediate future, and reporters will dish out the questions about future opponents as soon as a fight is over.

One opponent, however, stands out on the list, and he shares both the same division and the same promoter: WBO 140-pound titlist Terence Crawford (26-0, 18 KOs).

When asked about the 28-year-old native of Omaha, Nebraska, Postol said he was ready, though of course he has to consult with his team.

“I’m ready to fight him,” said a confident Postol, whose brand-new WBC strap lay a few feet beside the podium at which he answered questions for reports this past Saturday.

“The question is,” Postol continued,” is he ready to fight me?”

The fight is definitely a possibility because both are promoted by Top Rank. It would also be a match-up of the very best in the division.

One knows, however, that it may take some time, but, because Crawford has also shown his willingness to fight a high level of opposition, it may come as early as next year.

If the fight gets made, who do you think takes the victory?
