Lightweight prospect Gabriel Flores Jr. (12-0, 5 KOs) boxed his way to a unanimous decision victory over Alex Torres Rynn (6-3, 3 KOs) on Sunday, February 10, 2019 at the Save Mart Arena in Fresno, California.

The bout streamed live on the ESPN+ platform. Two judges scored the contest 60-54, while the final judge had it 59-55.

At only 18 years old Flores showed a ton of poise in there tonight as he controlled the distance for much of the contest. Surprisingly the 32 year old veteran, Rynn was unable to find any rhythm as he mostly swung at air.

At five feet nine inches Flores is taller then most fighters in his division. Flores used his reach to keep Rynn on the outside. Whenever Rynn would find himself close enough to Flores he wasn’t able to generate much of an offensive output.

Flynn can’t be faulted to much for his performance as he was moving up from the Super Bantamweight division in order to take this fight. It is a bit alarming that Flores was not able to stop his much smaller opponent.

He was fluid, composed and showed plenty of boxing ability, but lacked much punching power. In 12 fights he has only complied five knockouts so he isn’t exactly the biggest puncher.

With that being said, his tall frame and boxing ability can cause problems for several fighters. At only 18 years of age, he still has room to improve, but tonight he put on a great performance.
