Round By Round Boxing caught up with Davis as her prepares for his next bout and looks to keep his perfect record in tact.

Round By Round Boxing: A lot of fighters don’t have a plan if their boxing career doesn’t take off, but you’re taking your studies seriously and getting your high school diploma. Talk about the importance of having an education.

Gervonta Davis: I went back to my old high school and I’m getting my regular high school diploma. Education is important for the business side of boxing. You have to be able to read and understand the contracts, and to know what’s going on.

I wouldn’t be a very good role model if I told kids to go to school, but then didn’t really go myself. Education is important. You need to have skills from school or you could get hustled by other people and you won’t even know.

RBRBoxing: If you had to compare your boxing style to another notable fighter, who would that be?

GD: My style isn’t comparable to any fighter that I’ve seen. I’ve got good power in both hands, fast hand speed, good footwork and good defense.

RBRBoxing: What would you say your strengths are in the ring and what makes you successful?

GD: My strengths in the ring are that I stay calm under pressure, and I listen to my team. I do whatever my team asks of me. I am successful because I work hard and do everything with lots of effort.

RBRBoxing: Do you believe your extensive amateur background will help you as a pro?

GD: Yes, my experience will help as I step up in competition. I’ve seen all kinds of styles and fought all kinds of boxers. I’ve won championships and I’m battle tested.

RBRBoxing: What do you want to accomplish in the sport of boxing?

GD: I want to be a pay-per-view star and be mentioned with the great ones in the sport. I also want to make sure I am financially secure for my future, unlike many of the past champs before me.

RBRBoxing: Do you have an opponent for August 1 yet and if so, what do you know about him?

GD: I still don’t have an opponent locked in yet. My team has been preparing for any kind of opponent while we wait. I’ve had all kinds of sparring for this fight to make sure I’ll be prepared for anything and anyone.

RBRBoxing: Are there any fighters that you look up to or who is your favorite fighter at the moment?

GD: I don’t look up to any fighter, but Floyd Mayweather, Canelo [Alvarez], and Adrien Broner are my favorites, because I enjoy watching them. They work hard and understand the business in boxing.

RBRBoxing: Very cool, that’s a good list! Do you have any words for your fans and maybe people who haven’t heard of you yet? What can people expect from Gervonta Davis?

GD: Support me and I’ll fight for you. I’m exciting and a crowd pleaser. I work hard, like to be seen under the lights, and I enjoy interacting with my fans.

RBRBoxing: Where can people follow you online?

GD: People can follow me on Twitter: @GervontaDavis, IG: @GervontaDavis, Facebook: Gervonta Davis.
