Ramon Alvarez (21-4-2, 13 KOs), only two months after his win over Omar Chavez, scored a seventh round TKO victory over Vivian Harris (32-10-2, 19 KOs) to win the vacant North American Light Middleweight title at the Modulo Comude in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
The scheduled 10-round fight was the main event of a card presented by Canelo Promotions and Fox Deportes.
Alvarez, 28, of Guadalajara, Mexico, dominated Harris from the opening round, landing powerful right hands in rounds one and three, the latter of which almost stopped Harris before being saved by the bell.
Harris, 36, of Georgetown, Guyana, struggled to deal with Alvarez’s right hand from the opening rounds, but managed to hurt Alvarez with shots of his own in rounds five and six.
Nevertheless, Alvarez was unfazed as he dropped Harris twice in round seven, the second knockdown caused being caused by a right hand and left hook combination.
