Jonathan Maicelo and Brandon Bennett fought in an exciting 10-round main event on Friday night at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC.
Maicelo, determined to earn another title shot, outworked Bennett and earned a unanimous decision victory.
A terrific undercard supported the main feature, with some of the best prospects in the country on display.
In 10-round Bouts:
Phil Jackson-Benson (15-2, 14 KO’s) of Brooklyn, NY earned a stoppage victory over Jinner Guerrero Sucumbios, Ecuador in Round 3.
Jackson-Benson improves to 16-2, 15 KOs.
2012 U.S. Olympian Jamel Herring (12-0, 7 KOs) put together a dominant, but short lived performance against Ariel Vasquez (12-8-2, 8 KOs) of Managua, Nicaragua.
Herring scored knockdowns in Round’s 1 and 2 before forcing Vasquez to quit in Round 3.
Robert Easter (14-0, 11 KO’s) of Toledo, OH will take on Osumanu Akaba (32-8-1, 25 KO’s) of Accra, Ghana named in a Lightweight bout.
In 8-round bouts:
Demond Nicholson (14-1, 14 KOs) of Laurel, MD flattened Antonio Baker (8-13, 4 KOs) of Fayetteville, NC in a Middleweight bout.
Nicholson was precise and landed hard shots before connecting with the blow that turned Baker’s legs into spaghetti in Round 2.
David Grayton (12-0, 9 KOs) of Washington, DC defeated Jose Valderrama (4-11, 3 KOs) of Arecibo, Puerto Rico in a Welterweight clash.
In 6-round bouts:
With hundreds of people in attendance to support him, Kareem “Big Reemo” Martin (6-0-1, 3 KOs) of Washington, DC defeated Anthony Prescott (5-7-2, 2 KO’s) of Cherry Hill, NJ by six-round unanimous decision.
2012 U.S. Olympian Raynell Williams (9-0, 5 KOs) of Cleveland, OH took on Jose Miguel Castro (5-6, 3 KOs) of Carolina, Puerto Rico in a Lightweight tilt.
Williams and Castro both started off at a measured pace in Round 1, but decided to exchange leather in Round 2. Castro was on the bad end of a powerful hook, which spelled the beginning of the end.
The official TKO came at 2:13 of Round 2.
Patrick Harris (7-0, 4 KOs) of Washington, DC took on a tough opponent in Irvin Hernandez (3-13-2, 1 KO) of Carolina, Puerto Rico in a Lightweight bout.
Harris spent most of the might trapping Hernandez in the corners and throwing five and six punch combinations.
Harris won by unanimous decision by scores of 60-54 (three times).
Leo Hall (7-0, 6 KOs) was taken the distance for the first time in his career by tough-as-nails journeyman, Edgar Perez (6-16, 3 KOs) of Carolina, PR.
Scores were 60-54 three time for Hall.
In a 4-round Bout:
Shynggyskahn Tazhibay (2-0, 2 KOs) of Karaganda, Kazakhstan stopped Coleman Phelps in Round 2.
