Well folks, another year of boxing is pretty much in the books and I must say that 2015 was pretty damn good.
Of course, there were crappy matchups, suspect decisions and fights that just didn’t live up to the hype–but I’d venture to say that the good definitely outweighed the bad.
The “Fight of the Century” came and went and the best part of 2016 might just be that people won’t be complaining about Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao never getting in the ring.
Mayweather has–supposedly–retired and Pacquiao is inching closer to announcing his final opponent for April 2016. So is boxing in trouble? Not by a long shot.
With the two biggest stars of the past decade moving on, boxing is now looking at a new crop of fighters to take over. Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin both staked their claim as boxing’s best as did a little known Nicaraguan named “Chocolatito.”
There were plenty of surprises, like Andrzej Fonfara’s early-year upset over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Tyson Fury ending Wladimir Klitschko‘s heavyweight reign, as well as prospects that stood out like Felix Verdejo, Jarrett Hurd and Errol Spence.
