Sadam Ali (22-0, 13 KOs) outboxed and outlanded Francisco Santana (22-4-1, 11 KOs) en route to a unanimous decision victory at the Madison Square Garden in New York, NY.
The 10-round Welterweight fight was the co-main event of HBO’s presentation of the Heavyweight title fight between Wladimir Klitschko and Bryant Jennings.
Ali, 26, set the pace early by using quick footwork and an even quicker jab that met Santana’s face several times.
Santana, 28, used his size advantage to push forward with left hands, but had a lot of trouble dealing with Ali’s counter punches.
In Rounds 3 and 4, Santana had his best moments as he landed left and right hands in exchanges with Ali. Santana was relentless, but smart–keeping his hands up before unleashing combination punches.
Nevertheless, despite Santana’s consistent aggression and size advantage, Ali kept his composure and outboxed Santana into the 10th and final round.
The Brooklyn, New York native won with scores of 97-93, 97-93 and 100-90.
Ali remains undefeated, while Santana, a native of Santa Barbara, California, suffers the fourth loss of his career.
