The opening bout of tonight’s main DAZN broadcast, in support of Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez vs. Julio Cesar Martinez, featured a battle of Junior Middleweight’s as Souleymane Cissokho took on Roberto Valenzuela Jr.
The two produced an action-packed fight that saw both fighters taste the canvas in a wild Round 4.
The second half of the bout saw both fighters dig down to make the adjustments necessary to win. Cissokho got on his bike and kept his wits about him boxing all the way through to prevent Valenzuela Jr. from hurting him. Valenzuela Jr. did his best to make the action favor him, gesturing at Cissokho to stand and fight with him, but to no avail as Cissokho kept his distance.
In the end, Cissokho retained his WBA Inter-Continental crown on points with scores of 100-90 and 99-91 twice.
Angel Fierro 134.6lbs vs. Juan Carlos Burgos 134.2lbs
Juan Carlos Burgos capitalized on his momentum from the early rounds and grew in confidence through the eighth, winning exchanges with cleaner punching and throwing combinations of his own while avoiding the worst of what Angel Fierro threw in response.
Burgos continued his measured assault in the final rounds, throwing short combinations on the inside and consistently landing to the mid section.
Fierro attacked with urgency in his punches, hoping to land something big in the final round, but Burgos hung on and gave as good as he got until the last bell sending the fight to the judges scorecards.
In the end, the judges scored the bout 95-95 twice and 96-94 for Burgos, for a majority draw.
