Three-division, four-time champion Abner Mares was originally scheduled to take on two-time Super Featherweight champion Gervonta Davis on Saturday, February 9. But, after Mares suffered a gruesome eye injury, he was forced to withdraw.
Instead, Davis defended his WBA strap against former world champion Hugo Ruiz in the main event of Showtime Championship Boxing from Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
Davis wasted little time backing Ruiz up and imposing his will before dropping and stopping the Mexican challenger in Round 1.

WBA super featherweight champion Gervonta Davis (21-0, 20, KOs) blasted Henry Ruiz in the first round to retain his title in the main event. Davis dropped Ruiz with a right hook and referee Jack Reiss stopped the bout.
Mario Barrios vs. Richard Zamora
Super lightweight Mario Barrios (23-0, 15 KOs) stops Richard Zamora (19-3, 12 KOs) in the fourth round. Barrios pepperd Zamora with hard shots before the referee step in and stopped the bout.
Javier Fortuna vs. Sharif Bogere
In a 10-round lightweight bout, Javier Fortuna (33-2-1, 23 KOs) outlasted Sharif Bogere (32-2, 20 KOs) to win by unanimous decision. All three judges scored it 96-93 in favor of Fortuna.
Erickson Lubin vs. Ishe Smith
Erickson Lubin (20-1, 15 KOs) defeated Ishe Smith (29-11, 12 KOs) by knockout at the end of the third round. Smith hit the canvas four times before referee Jack Reiss stopped the bout.
Eddie Ramirez vs. Juan Heraldez
Juan Heraldez improves to 16-0 after knocking down Eddie Ramirez (17-3, 11 KOs) three times en route to KO victory. Referee stopped it in the seventh round.
Xavier Martinez vs. Deivi Julio Bassa

Ava Knight suffers a nasty cut due to an accidental head clash and the bout is stopped in the third round. It is ruled a technical draw.
Angelo Leo vs. Alberto Torres
In eight rounds of featherweight action, Angelo Leo (16-0, 8 KOs) defeats Alberto Torres (11-2-3, 4 KOs) by unanimous decision. All three judges scored it 79-71 in favor of Leo who dropped Torres twice.
Maurice Lee vs. Lennard Davis
Maurice Lee (9-1-2, 5 KOs) and Lennard Davis (4-1-5, 3 KOs) fought to a majority draw. One judge had it 57-55 while the other two judge scored it 56-56.
Francisco Ochoa vs. Luis May
Francisco Ochoa (14-0, 8 KOs) beat Luis May (21-12-1, 8 KOs) by six-round unanimous decision. All three judges scored it 60-53 in favor of Ochoa.
Emmanuel Medina vs. Carlos W. Velasquez
