Seth “Mayhem” Mitchell (26-1-1, 19 KOs) looks ripped and ready to go. Working from his headquarters—the Dream Team Gym—in Clinton, MD, Mitchell put on an impressive workout for the media as he diligently prepares for his fight with Chris Arreola (34-3, 30 KOs) on September 7, 2013.
Arreola had some choice words for Mitchell earlier in the week, saying “I will admit it, I’m a hater. Fuck it. I hate this guy.” Arreola also said that he would knock Mitchell out.
Mitchell confirmed to me that there is no history between him and Arreola and that he has never even spoken with the California native. Mitchell says that he simply attributes those comments to envy.
Many people believe that this fight is a make or break bout for Mitchell and it remains to be seen how he handles that sort of pressure.
Though he didn’t “wow” the crowd with his performance in his last fight versus Johnathon Banks, Mitchell showed intelligence and grit and was able to tough out a necessary victory.
If Mitchell falls to Arreola, he could lose all the steam that Golden Boy has helped him build in the past few years. Mitchell is well aware of the politics that surround the fight game and says that he understands that boxing is business and to keep getting opportunities on big cards, he has to win.
Mitchell didn’t want to dip into his game plan too much, but he said he will have multiple strategies for Arreola, no matter what type of fight Arreola brings.
Mitchell said that one thing is for certain, come September 7, his opponent will have to back up the tough talk.
