Shawn “Showtime” Porter (26-1-1 16 KOs) was in attendance today at the Barclays Center to watch the fighters take the scale for the Deontay Wilder vs. Artur Spzilka fight card. He appeared to be having a great time, flashing his signature smile for pictures with fans galore.
His happy and down-to-earth demeanor has always been a staple of his personality, but today his smile shined a little brighter knowing that he is finally going to get his chance to fight the undefeated Keith “One Time” Thurman (26-0-22 KOs).
Porter spoke with Round By Round Boxing and confirmed that he will face Thurman and that a deal has been reached by both parties.
“We took a redeye here to New York, to be here today, not only to watch the fights, but to announce that I will be fighting Keith “One Time” Thurman. As far as I know it is all set to take place in March,” Porter explained.
The location and major details have not been released but it is rumored that the event will take place on March 12 and likely take place at The Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT which would ensure a neutral location for both fighters. Porter exuded great excitement that the deal has been made and looks forward to the fight finally taking place.
“I have been in camp, and I will go back to camp, and I look forward to this fight officially happening. Team Porter is ready and will continue to be ready,” said Porter.
“This is going to be a good fight, I look forward to it and I am happy we are able to make this happen for the fans.”
This fight is not only the fight fans have been longing for, but it is also the fight both fighters have been looking forward to. As we all know in the boxing world the real fight can be to make sure contracts are agreed upon by all parties causing fights to take forever to come to fruition.
The details of the fight will likely be released soon and continue to unfold in the next couple of weeks. Porter and Thurman are two charismatic powerful brawlers that are not afraid to go toe-to-toe.
