Anthony Joshua vs. Dominic Breazeale

WEIGHIN-JOSHUA-BREAZEALE4

Liam Brady, Graphic Designer/Staff Writer

Similar to Anthony Joshua’s victory over Charles Martin, I see a lazy jab by Breazeale being taken advantage of by Joshua, who will be too quick, and return with a crude, debilitating counter right hand that will topple Breazeale.

There is no doubt Breazeale has heart, so I can see him getting up and beating the count. But it will be a matter of time until Joshua closes the show after landing a few more power shots, a narrative that viewers of Anthony Joshua fights are accustomed to now.

Summarising, I see nothing but an Anthony Joshua knockout victory, within three rounds, to seal a 17th knockout in as many fights. He is too quick, too powerful, and more refined defensively and offensively. I expect another early finish for the fans inside The O2 Arena.

Prediction: Joshua

With ongoing discussions about a potential Anthony Joshua vs. Deontay Wilder super fight, it would really be something if Dominic Breazeale rained on the Heavyweight division’s parade by pulling off a monumental upset.

Breazeale is a power puncher, but it will likely require a more well-rounded arsenal to derail the 26-year-old Joshua.

Just a couple of months removed from his thunderous knockout of Charles Martin, I’m picking Joshua to record his 17th KO at Breazeale’s expense.

This is a joke fight. Dominic Breazeale tastes the canvas multiple times before the third round and the ref waves it off at the 10 count as Breazeale does that little “What?? I was up!” act to save face.

Dominic Breazeale is big, tall, can box and punch a little. But he keeps his chin up and his hands too low.

Whether he walks through him or catches him with a nice counter shot, the fight will be over soon after Dominic tastes Anthony Joshua’s power and gets worn down by Joshua’s strength.

I’m not sure that we have ever seen a heavyweight champion with 16 fights defending against a challenger with 17 but what is for certain is that the 6’6″ Brit has injected some much needed excitement in the division.

With a collective 31 knockouts out of a combined 32 fights it seems unlikely that this bout will end in anything but a stoppage for the victor.

The champion is still learning on the job and Dillian Whyte showed that while sturdy, his chin is not invulnerable. Expect the Anthony Joshua express to mow down Dominic Breazeale before the mid rounds, but it will be fun to watch before the end comes.

Prediction: Joshua

Anthony Joshua seems more powerful and has more to offer technically than Dominic Breazeale. Breazeale looks like he’s too big to move and throw punches comfortably, while Joshua is quicker and more precise.

Not that physique makes a huge difference at heavyweight (think Tyson Fury), but Joshua looks to be in peak shape.

While Breazeale has the softer midsection, I don’t think he will be able to withstand Joshua’s power for more than five rounds if that long.

Anthony Joshua (16-0, 16 KOs) takes on Dominic Breazeale (17-0, 15 KOs) in the IBF world heavyweight title showdown at The O2 Arena in London this weekend. Joshua will be making his first defense of his IBF world heavyweight title, clinching the title with a second-round knockout against Charles Martin back in April.

Joshua has a perfect record, ending every one of his fight prematurely, 16 stoppage wins out of 16. Breazeale is also an undefeated fighter with an impressive KO percentage of 88%, not stopping only two of his opponents.

While Breazeale is the clear underdog going into Saturday night’s fight, he claims that he is going to spoil Joshua’s latest London fight night and take the IBF title back to America. On paper, this fight is looks to be a competitive one but I am predicting an easy win for Joshua.

Breazeale is a great boxer but he neglects to properly protect himself. Once Joshua finds his rhythm and unleashes his power, I don’t foresee this fight going passed Round 6.

Prediction: Joshua

Alex Burgos, Editor-in-Chief

This fight will be Anthony Joshua vs. Charles Martin 2.0. Dominic Breazeale, while anxious to shake up the Heavyweight division, does not have speed or reflexes to hang with Joshua.

They’ll trade, Joshua will beat Breazeale to the punch, and that’ll be all she wrote. Round 2 KO.

Prediction: Joshua
