A date and location have seemingly been set for Teofimo Lopez’s (16-0, 12 KOs) upcoming title defense against mandatory challenger George Kambosos Jr. (19-0, 10 KOs).

According to Lopez, who announced the news himself in a Tweet that has since been deleted, the fight will take place on June 5 in Miami. A venue has not yet been revealed, but it’s known that the fight will be streamed as a pay-per-view on Triller, which won the rights to the fight with a monstrous bid at last month’s purse bid.

The 23-year-old Lopez, one of boxing’s brightest young stars, currently holds the WBC Franchise, WBA (Super), WBO, IBF, and Ring Magazine Lightweight titles.

This past October, he scored the biggest victory of his career, as he outpointed Vasiliy Lomachenko, who was previously considered by many to be the sport’s pound-for-pound king.

Before beating Lomachenko, Lopez scored a triumphant second-round TKO victory over Richard Commey in December 2019 to win his first major world title.

Kambosos, meanwhile, is a 27-year-old unbeaten Australian who currently stands as the mandatory challenger to Lopez’s IBF title. Kambosos is coming off back-to-back split decision victories over Mickey Bey, whom he beat in December 2019 on the same night that Lopez beat Commey, and Lee Selby this past October.

Kambosos is currently rated as the No. 8 Lightweight in the world by Ring Magazine
