As one of the gyms coaches–Marcus Patterson–told us, Old School Boxing Gym is the “quintessential throwback gym.”

No air conditioning, tassels or flashy scenery, just hard work and dedicated people. It’s a place where serious boxers and working-class people alike can go to train.

Late last week, Round By Round Boxing stopped by the Old School Boxing Gym in Fort Washington, MD where we were graciously met by Buddy Harrison, who runs the gym.

Buddy is a charismatic figure who also happens to be the father/trainer of Washington, DC’s undefeated Welterweight prospect, Dusty Hernandez-Harrison (25-0, 13 KOs).

The Roc Nation Sports fighter was in the midst of preparing for his April 17 bout against Henry “Mamba” Auraad (16-9-1, 13 KOs) of Cartagena, Colombia, which will be held at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut as part of the Throne Boxing series.

But, both Harrison’s were glad to give up a few hours of their time to shine some light on the people who help make Old School a success. We got a chance to speak with coaches and fighters–young and old–who really shined a light on what makes Old School Boxing Gym a special place.
