WBC Lightweight Update

The WBC has ordered a free negotiation period for the Jorge Linares vs Dejan Zlaticanin fight, with the undisputed WBC lightweight championship at stake, in order to clarify a unique situation.

Jorge Linares visited Mexico City earlier this week, meeting with WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman at the traditional “Mártes de Cafe” weekly press conference where he was presented with the exclusive WBC Champion´s bracelet.

Linares injured his right hand in the 6th round of the ferocious battle vs Anthony Crolla, and after analysing the situation and confirming with Dr Jedediah Jones MD, it has been concluded that Linares will not be able to fight for some time.

The WBC is hereby confirming that Dejan Zlaticanin is free to make a voluntary title defense of his WBC lightweight title.

The WBC will review the lightweight division as well as each division during the upcoming 54th WBC annual Convention to be held in Holywood Florida, in order to determine the mandatory status of each weight category. The WBC will continue with its goal of realizing the best possible fights in each division.
