What’s Next for Kell Brook?

After a sixth-round stoppage victory over Frankie Gavin, Kell Brook now has tons of options at 147 pounds. Where does the IBF champion go next?

Yesterday I was lucky enough to attend one of the most densely packed British boxing cards in history. With the likes of Lee Selby, Kevin Mitchell and Frankie Gavin all vying for world honors. Not to mention the Adonis that is Anthony Joshua taking on Kevin “Kingpin” Johnson.

Having seen Mitchell come up short against an unrelenting Jorge Linares and Lee Selby dethroning IBF featherweight champion Evgeny Gradovich, all eyes of the British public then turned to the domestic battle between Frankie Gavin and Kell Brook.

With the latter going on to demonstrate why he is the so called “Special One,” stopping Gavin with relative ease in the sixth round. So what’s next for the man from the steel city?

Since dramatically taking Shawn Porter’s IBF world title last summer, Brook has catapulted himself onto the world stage. Not to mention the fact that he now holds a belt in the most exciting and hotly contested weight division in the world. Having seen off two challengers to his belt comfortably on home turf, maybe it’s time for Brook to look stateside?

It’s no secret that the key to world success in this sport is to make a name for yourself in America. Perhaps Brook should look to the likes of Timothy Bradley or Keith Thurman, both of which would be hugely credible title defenses.

But with big fights come big risks. Maybe Brook should look to a fighter who would still provide a test, but not such a risk. Robert Guerrero springs to mind. A convincing victory for Brook would certainly get the American public talking.

Of course, with any top 10, 147 pound fighter comes the slim opportunity of that lucrative fight against the money man himself. Unfortunately for Brook though, I feel that his charge for such a fight would come too late for anything to materialize against Floyd Mayweather.

Now there is no doubt that one big name is missing in this article. One big name that people would love to see Kell Brook face in the ring is Amir “King” Khan. Should this fight happen we would most definitely be looking at a 60,000 plus stadium fight in Britain.

As exciting as that sounds, it seems that Khan’s one and only focus is Mayweather; who Khan firmly believes he can trouble with his dazzling speed and skillful combinations. A view shared among many boxing fans.

As the IBF welterweight champion of the world, Kell Brook has it all at his feet. With big paydays and super fights all within reach, this talented and undefeated fighter looks set to make waves in the 147 division.
