On Saturday, February 17, 2017, Adrien Broner (33-2-0, 24 KOs) scored a split decision victory against Adrian Granados (18-5-2, 12 KOs) at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The ten-round Welterweight fight headlined a three-fight telecast that was presented by Showtime Boxing in the U.S.

Broner, a 27-year-old former four-division champion, had a lot of trouble with Granados’ non-stop offense. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native claims that part of it was due to him hurting his left hand in the opening round.

“I hurt my hand in the first round. I hit him with a hard left hook. From then, my left hand was no good. That’s why I couldn’t throw my hand as much,” said Broner.

“That’s why I had to stay on the inside. If I didn’t stay on the inside, I had no chance because I couldn’t throw my jab,” said Broner.

However, Granados, a 27-year-old native of Cicero, Illinois, did his part in making sure the fight was held at close range as he landed hard right hands throughout the fight and worked Broner to the body with hooks as well.

As the rounds progressed, fatigue began to set in for Broner, and he clinched a lot to prevent Granados from working on the inside. Nevertheless, while on the inside, Granados landed a lot of punches.

“I thought I outworked him. I knew it wasn’t a pretty fight,” said Granados, who was upset with the boxing politics leading up to the fight.

“There was all types of controversies. There were playing with me. We had to change the weight. We had to change the scales. There were just playing all types of games,” said Granados, who referred to the way Broner and his promotional team changed the weight limit for the fight.

“He fought smart. You can do it? Beat me again. Let’s do it in my house,” said Granados.

Broner won with scores of 96-94 and 97-93, while one judge had it 93-97 for Granados.
