David Lemieux, after taking a difficult stoppage loss to Gennady Golovkin last October, reminded the boxing world why they all loved him in the first place with a sensational knockout against Glen Tapia in the fourth round on the undercard of Canelo Alvarez vs. Amir Khan.

Lemieux knows how to knock guys out, and impressively and it was no different with Tapia, who had previously been on a cold streak. “I’ll be back,” said Tapia after being stopped. “This wasn’t my day at all.”

In the fourth, Tapia was subject to Lemieux’s trademark left hook which dropped him hard. Tapia stood up in time, but his corner decided to call it quits and stand on the apron as Tapia was on rubbery legs.

Lemieux is known to be dangerous when he has his man hurt, and Tapia would surely have been another decapitation in waiting.

Tapia immediately argued the stoppage, gesturing in anger at his corner, but after having been outboxed in the three previous rounds, it was clear to his corner team that it wasn’t worth sending him into the meat grinder against a cement-fisted brawler like Lemieux.

Lemeiux on the other hand was overjoyed at the stoppage, given his last stoppage loss and failure to make weight against previousy scheduled opponent James De La Rosa.

“This victory means the world to me,” said Lemieux. “It proves all the doubters that Lemieux is back. When I first got offered this fight, I knew that it wasn’t going to be easy.”

Lemieux’s impressive victory should put him in line once again to fight another top ten Middleweight.
