Jamel Herring Voices Disappointment in Pedraza Backing Out of Fight

Round By Round Boxing caught up with Jamel Herring, who gave his thoughts on a potential fight against Jose Pedraza falling through.

On Saturday, July 15, Premier Boxing Champions will be putting on the first boxing event at the newly-renovated NYCB LIVE, home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

The fight card is headlined by a matchup between former world champions Omar “Panterita” Figueroa and Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero, and was set to feature an intriguing matchup between former 130-pound champion, Jose Pedraza, and once-beaten Lightweight, Jamel Herring.

Earlier today, Round By Round Boxing caught up with Herring to see how his preparation was coming along for the fight, only to be informed that the fight is off.

Herring, who was excited about the opportunity to face a former world-champion, voiced his displeasure with the situation.

“I’m really disappointed because I was looking forward to matching up with a man who was recognized as a world champion not too long ago,” said Herring.

Aside from the opportunity of facing a top-notch fighter, July 15 will be historic in the sense that the fight card will be the first boxing event at the Coliseum since Mike Tyson headlined in 1986.

According to Herring, the former IBF champion had indicated that he wanted to move up in weight, so it is unclear at the moment why he opted out of the fight.

“You claim you want to move up to Lightweight and earn a title shot by the end of the year, but don’t step up when it’s time,” said Herring.

Herring hopes to remain locked into the date, but a secondary opponent has not been named as of yet.

“In the end there’s no animosity and I wish him the best of luck.”
