Pedro Guevara Wins Vacant Light Flyweight Title with KO of Akira Yaegashi

Pedro Guevara (24-1-1, 16 KOs) knocked out Akira Yaegashi (20-5, 10 KOs) in the seventh-round of a scheduled 12-round fight to win the vacant WBC Light Flyweight title at the Metropolitan Gym in Tokyo, Japan.

Pedro Guevara (24-1-1, 16 KOs) knocked out Akira Yaegashi (20-5, 10 KOs) in the seventh-round of a scheduled 12-round fight to win the vacant WBC Light Flyweight title at the Metropolitan Gym in Tokyo, Japan.

The fight was the co-main event of a card promoted by Ohashi promotions.

Guevara, 25, of Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico, ended the fight with a vicious hook to the body to Yaegashi, 31, of Japan, who previously held the title before being knocked out by Roman Gonzalez in September.

“I feel extremely great to win against such a great champion,” Guevara told JapanTimes.com, “He was very aggressive and was a great boxer.”

Guevara, is the the younger brother of Alberto Guevara, who faces Randy Caballero for the IBF Bantamweight title on February 27, 2015.

Guevara is now on the list of Light Flyweight titleholders that includes Javier Mendoza, Alberto Rossel and Donnie Nietes.
