Round By Round Boxing‘s Fight Night Champion Simulation: Paulie Malignaggi versus Adrien Broner
EA Sports’ Fight Night Champion is one of the most entertaining boxing video games on any gaming platform.
For Round By Round Boxing’s inaugural Fight Night Simulation series we chose to simulate Paulie “Magic Man” Malignaggi (32-4, 7 KOs) versus Adrien “The Problem” Broner (26-0, 22 KOs). The championship bout was simulated on the Xbox 360 system.
The actual bout is scheduled for 12 Rounds at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, NY, with Malignaggi’s WBA Welterweight title on the line.
The way our simulation coverage works is as follows:
- We watch as the computer simulates the bout.
- Fight Night Champion judges the fight, giving three separate judges scores at the end of the match.
- The three official judges scores are listed after each round summary.
Read on for the round-by-round breakdown of Malignaggi versus Broner.
Round 1
In Round 1, Broner came out dominating the action. He set the pace with his jab and kept Malignaggi on the defensive.
Broner’s overhand right was the most dominant punch landed in the round and definitely gave “The Problem” the clear edge.
After Round 1:
Judge 1: 10-9 for Broner
Judge 2: 10-9 for Broner
Judge 3: 10-9 for Broner
Round 2
In Round 2, things started to heat up a bit as Malignaggi began to land his jab and lead left hook. Surprisingly, Broner stayed against the ropes most of the round and tried to use upper body movement to evade and deflect punches.
Malignaggi couldn’t miss with his jab, landing 10 of 13 (76 percent).
Round 2 Scores:
Judge 1: 10-9 Malignaggi
Judge 2: 10-9 Malignaggi
Judge 3: 10-9 Malignaggi
Round 3
After an earful from his corner, Broner decided to use more movement and stay off the ropes. He connected with a hard overhand right over Paulie’s lazy jab, which stunned the fighter from Brooklyn. Malignaggi was able to move and clinch to survive. Broner’s hand speed was apparent in this round and he landed the more meaningful punches.
Round 3 Scores:
Judge 1: 10-9 for Broner
Judge 2: 10-9 for Broner
Judge 3: 10-9 for Broner
Round 4
Malignaggi came out this round determined to stick and move. He began landing the jab at ease as was the case in Round 2. Broner missed on a few home run shots and no major punches were landed by either man. A few boo’s were heard from the crowd.
Tough round to judge, which was evident by the different scores on the official cards.
Round 4 Scores:
Judge 1: 10-10 Even
Judge 2: 10-10 Even
Judge 3: 10-9 Malignaggi
Round 5
In Round 5, the fight began to pick up in pace. Each man began throwing two and three punch combinations with vicious intent. Surprisingly, Malignaggi had more success landing the cleaner and more effective blows. Broner loaded up and missed a lot of power shots, seemingly getting fatigued. Towards the end of the round, Malignaggi hit Broner with a swift jab-cross combination which staggered the younger fighter and backed him up to the ropes. The bell rang just as Malignaggi was rushing in to land more shots.
Round 5 Scores:
Judge 1: 10-9 Malignaggi
Judge 2: 10-9 Malignaggi
Judge 3: 10-9 Malignaggi
Round 6
Malignaggi picked up right where he left off in the previous round and connects with a mean combination. This time it’s a jab-right hook combo that lands flush on Broner’s chin. Broner falls hard to the canvas and is counted out by the referee.
Decision
Paulie Malignaggi wins by KO in Round 6. At the time of the stoppage, two judges had the fight even and one judge had Malignaggi up by one point.
