From the beginning, life for Antoine Douglas has been a struggle. Born premature to a drug addicted mother, Antoine and his brothers bounced from a relative to foster care and adoption while their mother struggled with addiction. Through it all, Antoine found a way to persevere largely because of boxing. Now, each time Antoine enters a ring, he is not fighting just for himself but for his mother.

“This was the time I realized I had to be a son to my mother, more than she could be a mother to me…I know what it’s like to struggle. I know what it’s like to be on the bottom end. I have to be able to share that with her and uplift her because I feel like that was my purpose.”

Check out this I AM A FIGHTER feature on Antoine Douglas, the unbeaten middleweight who faces Les Sherrington in a collision of world-ranked contenders tonight, Friday, Nov. 6 on ShoBox: The New Generation, live on SHOWTIME (10 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast).
