Abner Mares (29-1-1, 15 KOs) scored a unanimous decision win over Arturo Reyes (18-5, 5 KOs) on the first edition of Premier Boxing Champions at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The 10-round Featherweight fight aired on NBCSN in the U.S.

Mares, of Guadalajara, Mexico had a bit of trouble against an undermatched opponent, but nonetheless won a decision win.

“To be honest, I didn’t like my performance,” said Mares.

Mares blames his performance on a sudden cold that began earlier this morning.

“I had a tremendous camp, but today I woke up a little under the weather.”

Mares fought in bursts and said that he did so because he could not be as active as he normally is because he was a bit under the weather.

Nevertheless, the judges scored the fight 96-93, 98-91 and 99-94.
