Rising prospect “Relentless” Antonio Orozco (23-0, 15 KOs) will make his 2016 debut, taking on former WBA Super Lightweight world champion Miguel “Aguacerito” Acosta (29-8-2, 23 KOs).

Orozco will look to add on to an already impressive resume thus far in his professional career.

As an amateur, Orozco accumulated wins over the likes of Jessie Vargas and U.S. Olympian Javier Molina before focusing on a pro career. Most recently, Orozco took on and defeated the veteran and former three-division world champion, Humberto Soto.

Round By Round Boxing caught up with Orozco to get his take on his upcoming bout at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino on March 25.

Round By Round Boxing: Antonio, thanks for taking the time today. Let’s jump right into it, how has training camp been leading up to this fight?

Antonio Orozco: Training camp has been great. I take every camp the same way. I try to push myself to work harder every time and so far it’s been great.

RBRBoxing: You’re coming off a big win over Humberto Soto and on a big stage of the undercard of Lucas Matthysse vs. Viktor Postol. How did you feel after that win?

Antonio Orozco: It was big. I mean, I have a lot of respect for Soto and I’ve seen a lot of his fights. Getting that win on that stage was huge for me but that’s what I want. I want to be able to fight big names and continue to challenge myself in the ring.

RBRBoxing: Your stock is definitely rising. The Mexican fan base sees you as the next big thing from Mexico. How does that feel?

AO: I welcome it. It’s a great feeling to have so much support. It’s really a dream come true and I hope to keep gaining more fans, the more I fight.

RBRBoxing: Golden Boy is making a name for being the company with the most rising talent and the most prospects in boxing. Do you feel you’re in the new generation of boxers?

AO: I’m just happy to part of such a great company. I grew up watching Oscar [De La Hoya] and idolizing him as a fighter and now some years later I get to fight under his banner. Like I said, its truly a dream come true.

RBRBoxing: Being this is your first fight of 2016, tell me about your goals for this year.

AO: Well the ultimate goal is to become a world champion. Before I do that I have get passed [Miguel] Acosta and earn a title shot. I hope this fight puts me in a better position to do that.

RBRBoxing: Miguel Acosta is a tough fighter and he’s been able to taste what it’s like to be a champion. What are you expecting in this fight and what are your predictions?

AO: I don’t like to make predictions, but I know that he’s going to come out and try to hurt me. I expect that he’s going to do whatever he has to in order to win and that’s exactly what I’m going to do.

RBRBoxing: Right on. Well thank you for your time and wish you the best this Friday.

AO: Thank you.
