On Friday, March 25, 2016, Antonio Orozco (24-0, 16 KOs) returned to the ring with a first-round knockout against former Lightweight titlist Miguel Acosta (29-9-2, 39 KOs) at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California.
The scheduled 10-round Super Welterweight fight headlined a three-fight, Spanish telecast on Estrella TV, while RingTVLive.com streamed all of the night’s action.
Orozco, fresh off his 2015 win against Humberto Soto, knocked Acosta down twice with left hooks in Round 1. Acosta, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was badly hurt, and the doctor was forced to stop the fight at 1:54 of Round 1.
“We take every fight seriously,” said Antonio Orozco. “We knew that Acosta is a former world champion, and we made sure to be as prepared as possible,” said Orozco, who fights out of San Diego, California.
“Fortunately, I was able to go in there and execute my game plan and ended the fight early. I want to fight a few more times this year and am ready to take on the best in the division. I am ready for the title shot.”

In the night’s co-main event, Andrew Cancio (17-3-2, 13 KOs) dominated Hugo Cazares (40-9-2, 27 KOs) en route to a third-round TKO victory.
In Round 1, Cancio, of Blythe, California, pushed forward and landed solid shots to the body on Cazares, a native of Sinaola, Mexico.
In Round 3, Cancio scored a knockdown, but Cazares managed to get up before the 10-count. However, after taking more punishment, Cazares’ cornerstopped the fight later at 2:47 of the same round.
“I felt very strong in the ring tonight,” said Andrew Cancio. “I trained very hard for 10 weeks and it paid off. I was able to come back in the ring and show my strength. I am ready for the top of the featherweight division and ready for a re-match with Ronny Rios.”
“He was stronger than we anticipated,” said Hugo Cazares. “He surprised me with his aggressiveness, but I am not going to make that mistake twice. I am going to come back next time ready and not underestimate any fighter.”
In the night’s first televised fight, Marco Magdaleno (2-0, 1 KOs) took on Luis Silva (2-7, 1 KOs) in a scheduled four-round Lightweight fight.
Magdaleno, a native of Indio, California, made quick work of Silva, stopping him at 1:29 of Round 2.
“I am excited about the victory,” said Marco Magdaleno. “I have been training for weeks and felt very prepared.”
Undercard Results:
Jason Quigley (10-0, 9 KOs) vs. Freddy Lopez (10-4, 7 KOs)
Quigley scored a first-round knockout against Freddy Lopez.
“It feels good to get another victory this year,” said Jason Quigley. “I am looking forward to continue the moment and staying busy in 2016.”
Emilio Sanchez (12-0, 9 KOs) vs. Gustavo Molina (12-10, 5 KOs)
Sanchez returned to the ring with a second-round TKO victory against Gustavo Molina.
“I am glad I added another knockout victory to my record and beating a fighter with more experience shows that I am progressing. I am hoping to add a 10-rounder by the end of the year and hopefully fight for a regional title early 2017.”
Jon Jon Dinong (2-0, 2 KO) vs. Jared Teer (2-6)
In the night’s first bout, Welterweight prospect Dinong scored a fourth-round knockout against Jared Teer.
KeAndre Gibson (14-0-1, 6 KOs) vs. Hector Velasquez (57-27-3, 39 KOs)
Gibson, a highly-regarded Welterweight prospect, scored a sixth-round knockout victory against Velasquez.
“I knew that Velazquez was a veteran fight who was going to bring a lot of experience with him and I knew he was going to be resilient. I wanted to make sure I kept my distance and fought the fight I wanted to, and at the end of the night I am happy with the knockout victory. I am ready to step it up this year and go up to the 10-rounders.”
