On Saturday, April 29, 2017, Carlos Zambrano scored a first-round KO victory against Claudio Marrera to retain his interim WBA Featherweight title and to earn the WBO Featherweight title at Sam’s Town Hotel & Gambling Hall in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The scheduled 12-round fight headlined the latest edition of Premier Boxing Champions on FOX Sports 1.
Zambrano is a 33-year-old native of Peru who had earned his interim title in March of 2015, but he had not fought since August of that year.
With an almost two-year layoff, Zambrano dusted off any ring rust and landed quick one-two from his southpaw stance that immediately dropped and stopped Marrera, a 28-year old of the Dominican republic.
Zambrano made a statement in the Featherweight division, and we’ll see if he can capitalize on it. This division includes the likes of Leo Santa Cruz, Carl Frampton and Oscar Valdez.
