After defeating Joseph Diaz Jr. back in May, Gary Russell Jr. was asked who he would like to face next. Russell Jr. stated that he would welcome a title unification bout with Leo Santa Cruz.
At that point, Santa Cruz had not tangled with Abner Mares for a second time, but after his second convincing victory over Mares on Saturday, June 9, Santa Cruz seems ready to unify.
After his victory, Santa Cruz was also asked who he would like to face next and Russell Jr. was “El Famoso Terremoto’s” answer.
