On Friday, December 2, 2016, Abraham Lopez (22-0-1, 15 KOs) scored a 10-round unanimous decision victory against Sergio Lopez (21-12-1, 12 KOs) to successfully defend his NABA title at the Belasco Theater in Downtown, Los Angeles.
The fight headlined a three-fight Spanish telecast on Estrella TV, while RingTV.com streamed the entire card.
Lopez, 29, had not fought since winning his title against Julian Ramirez earlier in June. The La Puente, California native looked to end the year with his third and final win of 2016.
Sergio Lopez, 30, of Ensenada, Mexico, is a durable opponent whose most recent notable fight was against Joet Gonzalez earlier in the year, which he lost via unanimous decision.
In the first and second rounds, the NABA champion looked for openings on the outside and shot hook-right hand combinations to the guard of Sergio Lopez.
In the Round 3, Abraham Lopez landed hard shots to the chin of Sergio Lopez, then properly began his attack to the body. Though he dominated the entire fight, Abraham Lopez was caught several times in the exchanges with counter right hands and counter left hooks.
In Rounds 5 and 6, the undefeated Featherweight prospect began pushing forward to land even more shots to the body, and, in the final rounds, Lopez looked for the stoppage with an unceasing body attack.
However, Abraham Lopez could not get the stoppage and won a clear unanimous decision victory with scores of 100-90, 99-91, and 99-91.
“He was definitely a warrior,” said Abraham Lopez.
“I definitely thought that there was moments throughout the fight that he was going to go down, but it goes to show how tough he was.”
I definitely think that it was my night tonight,” said Abraham Lopez.

In tonight’s co-main event, Super Bantamweight prospect Oscar Negrete (15-0, 6 KOs) scored a fourth-round TKO victory against Raul Hidalgo (26-15, 19 KOs).
Negrete, a resident of Los Angeles, California, began the first round by slowly looking for openings against Hidalgo.
Normally, one would be used to seeing Negrete spend the rest of the fight scoring a plethora of light punches, but, under the tutelage of new trainer Manny Robles, Negrete has learned to sit on his punches and make everything count.
Indeed, in Round 2, Negrete began landing hard hooks to the body and head of Hidalgo, which seemed to hurt him by the end of Round 3.
In the following round, Negrete continued applying pressure and forced a stoppage at 2:49 of Round 4.

In the first televised fight, Edgar Valerio (9-0, 5 KOs) scored a sixth-round TKO victory against Gudalupe De Leon (9-15, 5 KOs).
Valerio, a native of Los Angeles, California, controlled the fight with a long jab that was followed by straight right hands and right hooks to the body.
In Round 3, Valerio scored a knockdown which began a veritable beatdown that continued with another knockdown in Round 6, which forced the TKO stoppage.
“I was in the ring with a more experienced fighter, and yet I was able to get the win for being the smarter man,” said Valerio.
“We didn’t get much chance to study him as a fighter, but just looking at his past fights and how calm he was in the ring made us switch up the game plan,” said Valerio.
