On Saturday, October 27, 2018, Alberto Machado (21-0, 17 KOs) stepped into the ring to defend his WBA strap against once-beaten Yuandale Evans.
It didn’t take Machado very long to impose his will and deliver a power punch that dropped Evans on the deck. It would be the first of three first-round knockdowns as Machado effectively steamrolled Evans in under three minutes.
Machado landed a staggering 22 of 30 power punches against Evans, good for 73 percent.
Evans was only able to able to land 5 of 42, or 12 percent of his overall punches.
The official stoppage came at 2:25 in Round 1 when Machado blasted Evans with a solid right hook.
After the fight, Machado discussed his future with HBO’s Max Kellerman.
“I’m ready for the best,” said Machado. “But, Francisco Vargas could be the won–why not make a Mexico vs. Puerto Rico fight.”
