WBC Continental Americas Super featherweight champion and boxing sensation Andy “El Tiburon” Vences will look to return July 7th at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, CA against a tough and rugged southpaw in Frank De Alba.
Vences, who is coming off a massive rating success in his last fight as his draw with Erick De Leon was one of the five most-watched bouts on any network and matched the audience of Deontay Wilder vs. Luis Ortiz. Needless to say, Vences’ is no longer a prospect, but now someone with a solid fanbase and numbers to prove it as he looks to make a statement against a tough fighter in Fresno, CA.
Vences will be on the undercard of WBC super lightweight Jose Ramirez’s first title defense against Danny O’Connor. The bout will be televised on ESPN and ESPN+.
Here is what Vences had to say:
On his fight with Frank De Alba
“I am coming off a draw with Erick De Leon, so fighting another southpaw, it is cool. I am excited to get back in the ring July 7th and I can’t wait.”
On balancing a full-time job with being a champion
“I have a hectic schedule. I just finished sparring ten rounds right now and now I have work. It is crazy, but I am busy and very focused.”
On what the fans can expect for this fight
“More offense and more combinations. [I will be]…leading more, more angles and more combinations, as well as I, will be first. I am trying to be first and I am trying to be last. Just putting a lot of combinations together and working off my angles.”
On training
“I am training with Angel Cordon Sr. in Martinez, Ca at FightKore. We have been together for two years and now we are completely in sync with each other, we have a program set here on how we run our camps here every fight and if anything I am just going to get better and better.”
