On Saturday, June 25, 2016, Anthony Joshua scored a seventh-round knockout victory against Dominic Breazeale to defend his IBF Heavyweight title at the 02 Arena in London, United Kingdom.
The scheduled 12-round fight was televised on Showtime in the U.S.
Joshua, a 26-year-old native of the United Kingdom, controlled the fight early with jabs and quick one-two combinations.
In Round 2, Joshua stunned Breazeale with a right uppercut and looked for the finish, but Breazeale, who fights out of Carson, California, maintained his composure and toughed it out.
Indeed, Breazeale, 30, proved to be a durable opponent for Joshua, though he had no chance of hurting Joshua or of winning a round.
In Round 7, Joshua’s combination punches finally caught up to Breazeale, who was dropped two times before the referee stopped he fight.
Breazeale didn’t stand a chance.
Possible big-time opponents in Joshua’s future could include the likes of Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder, but both have scheduled title defenses, so we’ll have to see what is next for Joshua.
