Heavy-handed Argentinian boxers Lucas Matthysse and Marcos Maidana are both being positioned for championship fights this year.

Maidana (34-3, 31 KOs) is coming off of a savage slugfest against Josesito Lopez (30-6, 18 KOs) back in June. Maidana was able to defeat Lopez in Round 6 via TKO from the Home Depot Center in California.

Maidana has his sights set on newly crowned WBA Welterweight champion, Adrien Broner (27-0, 22 KOs). According to Gilberto Mendoza—WBA Vice President—Broner has the end of this month (July) to decide whether he will defend the 147 pound title or vacate it.

Matthysse (34-2, 32 KOs) is still riding high from a sensational third-round TKO victory against Lamont Peterson (31-2-1, 16 KOs) in May.

This victory was the biggest of Matthysse’s career and put him well on his way to stardom.

Although Golden Boy Promotions has yet to officially announce the fight, it is assumed that Matthysse will face Danny Garcia (26-0, 16 KOs) next for the WBC Junior Welterweight title and The Ring title.

Matthysse versus Garcia is easily one of the most anticipated fights in boxing and it will likely settle the debate of who is the best Junior Welterweight in the world.

With both Matthysse and Maidana positioned for title opportunities, could they both become champions by the end of the year?

If Matthysse and Maidana face off in the ring in 2014 for the ultimate Argentinian showdown, who would win? Let us know by using #RBRBoxing.
