Battles of Britain: MTK Global Has Big June Plans

MTK Global Logo

MTK Global Plans fantastic summer of boxing events across the British Isles this summer.

The matches begin on June 21 in Belfast with a Junior Welterweight bout between Darragh Foley and Tyrone McKenna for the vacant WBC International title. The card will also include Steven Ward and Liam Conroy fighting for the WBO European Light Heavyweight title.

The next day in Scotland (June 22) another competitive MTK card is scheduled. Muhammad Waseem ‘The Falcon’ (8-1, 6 KOs) will swoop into Glasgow’s Emirates Arena. Wasseem was last seen in a failed (and controversial) attempt to lift the IBF world Flyweight crown.

Waseem hopes to get another chance at the title, which is likely now that Moruti Mthalane is also a stablemate at MTK Global. However, first, he must swoop past veteran Tanzanian Chuwa (17-3, 9 KOs).

Glasgow’s own Commonwealth champion Lee McGregor will defend his Bantamweight title against Scott Allan. In heavier action, Kieran Smith (14-0, 7 KOs) will defend his WBC International Silver Super Welterweight title against Ivan Montero Coruna.

Coruna (21-3, 9 KOs) is a native of Mexico with two of his three losses coming outside of Mexico–beating Smith maybe a tall order. The undercard will also feature Lewis Benson vs. Renald Garrido and other matchups in a night full of action.

Saving the best for last on June 28, MTK Global hosts a night of boxing at York Hall, the historic home of British boxing. That card will feature Super Lightweight contender Ohara Davies (18-2, 14 KOs) fighting former long-time Lightweight champion Miguel Vazquez of Mexico.

Davies is coming off a defeat to WBO No. 1 Contender Jack Catterall and will face a stern test in Vazquez who held the IBF Lightweight crown for four years. Either man could have former world title challenger Anthony Yigit (23-1-1, 8 KOs) in their future.

Yigit is the former EBU Super Lightweight king who seems to have his career back on track after stopping Sandro Hernandez on May 4. Yigit will face Turkey’s Siar Ozgul (15-3, 3 KOs).

Yigit fought Ivan Baranchyk in the World Boxing Super Series last year in an entertaining fight that was stopped in the seventh round after Yigit suffered a gruesome eye injury,

Also on the card will be Ryan Walsh vs. Lewis Paulin for the British Featherweight crown and Chantelle Cameron vs. Anisha Basheel in a WBC World title eliminator.
