Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Aims for a November Return to the Ring
Earlier today, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. posted a photo on his Instagram of his fractured finger.
According to Jr., the doc’s orders are to not have any movement from his left hand for six weeks. Jr’s last fight was anything but impressive, so a break from him might be just what boxing needs right now.
Victor Ortiz Goes From Movie Premier, to Jail
Victor Ortiz and his brother attended the Kenny Chesney concert in Pasadena, CA over the weekend and both were arrested according to TMZ. Ortiz allegedly got into an altercation with another concert goer and reportedly kicked the man several times.
All the fancy footwork he learned from Dancing with the Stars must have stuck with Ortiz, because he’s now being charged for assault with a deadly weapon–his foot.
Most boxers have this issue with their hands when they do get involved in out-of-the-ring altercations. Ortiz was booked then released on $30,000 bail. No statements have been made from him at this time, but I’m sure we can expect a silly Ortiz style comment from him soon.
R.I.P. Brook vs. Rios
Dan Rafael of ESPN is reporting that he’s talked to both sides, Top Rank and Eddie Hearn, and both say the same thing, no fight between Kell Brook and Brandon Rios will happen.
Reportedly contracts were negotiated, altered and still neither side could come to any final agreement. Rios’ manager, Cameron Dunkin, say they will move on because the clock is ticking as Rios has only fought once this year.
Some names being mentioned for Rios are Ruslan Provodnikov, Mauricio Herrera, Jessie Vargas and Jose Benavidez Jr. All those fights would be pretty entertaining for boxing fans, but a matchup with Provodnikov could be a blood bath.
Garcia Chasing Down Chickens

Angel Garcia went old school on his son, Danny Garcia, in prep for their fight against Paulie Malignaggi this Saturday night. Angel brought in chickens for Danny to chase around the ring, just like Rocky had in preparation for Apollo Creed in the film Rocky II.
“They’re hard to catch, so I had to chase it down and can only grab it from the legs underneath, that’s the rule. So now I’m more than ready for whatever Paulie brings on Saturday night,” said Garcia (via Premier Boxing Champions).
Garcia admits Malignaggi won’t stand in front of him, so he wanted his footwork to be top notch. Must be something with these Philly fighters, but I think Rocky was right, ‘looks more like a Kentucky fried idiot’.

The WBO light welterweight champion is bringing HBO back to Omaha for the third time in two years on October 24. Terence Crawford and his team will begin their training back at the Colorado Springs Army Base at the beginning of September.
Crawford has been enjoying his accomplishments by visiting Africa and giving back to those in need, and also walking the red carpet for the 2015 ESPYS.
No names have been mentioned yet as to who’s stepping in the ring with him in October.
